How to Choose the Right Pizza Box for Your Takeaway
23 July 2026
The right pizza box keeps your product hot, crisp and looking professional from the oven to the customer's door. With so many sizes and materials on the market, here's how to choose the best option for your takeaway.
1. Match the box to your pizza size
Pizza boxes are sized by the diagonal of the pizza, most commonly 7", 9", 10", 12", 14" and 16". Always size up slightly rather than down — a box that's too tight crushes the crust and traps steam. Stock your two or three best-selling sizes in volume and keep the rest as fast top-ups.
2. Corrugated vs kraft
Single-wall corrugated board is the industry standard: rigid, stackable and insulating, so pizzas stay hotter for longer during delivery. Kraft (brown) boxes look more artisan and suit wood-fired or premium menus. White-topped boxes give the cleanest surface for full-colour print.
3. Grease resistance and ventilation
Look for boards with good grease resistance so the base doesn't go soggy, and small ventilation cuts or corner holes that let steam escape — this is what keeps the base crisp instead of soft.
4. Branding
Even a single-colour stamp on a plain kraft box lifts perceived value and turns every delivery into free advertising. If you're not ready for custom print, a neat generic box still beats an unbranded carrier bag.
